Bathory Release Date:10 July 2008
Bathory is based on the legends surrounding the life and deeds of Countess Elizabeth Bathory known as the greatest murderess in the history of mankind. Contrary to popular belief, Elizabeth Bathory was a modern Renaissance woman who ultimately fell victim to mens aspirations for power and wealth.
Director Juraj Jakubisko is offering this new perspective on life of Erzsebet. Her film story begins in a time when she is 32 years old. Her Husband, Ferenc Nadasdy, is fighting in wars with Turks and she alone is taking care of children together with wide family wealth. The film is not supposed to be a documentary, neither an accurate reconstruction of history. Director is following historical facts and fills in unexplored parts — so-called “blank” spots with his fantasy. That is how famous Italian painter Caravaggio or Monteverdi author of first opera, are getting to the story.
Director invited and cast many international, Czech and Slovakian actors. We will see British actress Anna Friel as Erzsebet, as her husband Ferenc Nadasdy — Vincent Regan, Italian painter Caravaggio is played by Hans Matheson and four main characters is closing Karel Roden as Gyorgi Thurzo. In other parts from international talents Franco Nero, Tim Preece and from Czech and Slovakian we will introduce Deana Horvatova, Bolek Polivka, Marek Vasut, Jiri Madl, Lucie Vondrackova, Andrej Hryc, Monika Hilmerova, Marek Majesky and many others.

Who was really Erzsebet Bathory? Was she really a “bloody countess”, as some historians name her? Or was she a very well educated woman mastering several languages and seriously interested natural healer? Graceful person of fine taste and at the same time so rich, that she irritated many royal women with her original robes tailored for her in far Italy? Sadistic murderess, or a victim of former relationships full of dark intrigues, which were sewed by someone powerful, lusting for her fabulous fortune? Cruel merciless mistress or a vulnerable, lonely widow, perhaps both?
From the castle of Cachtice, which had a reputation of unconquerable mansion in all Middle East Europe, only ruins remained. Chateau of Cachtice under the keep disappeared entirely. There is only a small museum in a small village, owning the only portrait of former monarch of the whole region, Erzsebet. Not even her age is possible to determine from the portrait of very questionable quality. She voluptuously looks upon us with sad eyes, face of melancholy, strictly closed lips demonstrate, that she was an energetic woman, meanwhile her big eyes are revealing her boldness and sense of romance…

Inspired by true events, THE CHILDREN OF HUANG SHI is a portrayal both sweeping and intimate of people who, thrown into an unexpected and desperate situation, discover their capacity for love and responsibility. It tells how a young Englishman, George Hogg (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) came to lead sixty orphaned boys on an extraordinary journey of almost a thousand perilous miles across the snow-bound Liu Pan Shan mountains to safety on the edge of the Mongolian desert. And of how, in doing so, he came to understand the true meaning of courage. During his journey, Hogg learns to rely on the support of Chen (Chow Yun Fat), the leader of a Chinese partisan group who becomes his closest friend. He soon finds himself falling in love with Lee (Radha Mitchell), a recklessly brave Australian adventurer whom war has turned into an unsentimental nurse on horseback. The guys over at Twitch know a heck of a lot more about crazy Asian cinema than I do — so when they posted a rather enthusiastic piece about an upcoming flick called Tokyo Gore Police, I was sufficiently intrigued. And then I watched the 5-minute promo clip, which is all sorts of maniacally insane. Now I officially cannot wait to throw my eyeballs at the flick, which comes from the guys who gave you Uzumaki, Meatball Machine, and many other memorably bizarre imports.
I’d be happy to embed the trailer right here, if only for simple convenience, but since the Tokyo Gore Police clip is all but awash in hardcore gore, violence and random nakedness, I’ll just point you towards Twitch for the gooey goods. (This sort of stuff is their specialty, after all.) No word on a U.S. distributor just yet (for all I know the flick’s still being finished), but I’m betting I’ll come across the Tokyo Gore Police at a genre-flavored festival some time soon. (And again, fair warning: Don’t check this clip if you have an aversion towards hilariously over-the-top gore geysers.)

Aamir Release Date : May 16, 2008
Aamir, the name literally means leader and our protagonist (Rajeev Khandelwal) becomes a follower not because of faith, not out of zeal but out of ‘fear’. Geographically Aamir’s maze is set in the Muslim dominated, but poor, areas of Bombay. In its lanes and by lanes, cheap restaurants and lodges, amongst nameless pimps and whores, run-down buildings and over-crowded markets, filth and squalor, Aamir is supposed to understand the life he has lived, the ‘choices’ he has made, his dreams, his loves and his immediate fears.
Through the course of one day lost in the streets of Mumbai the question remains that do you choose your destiny, or does destiny choose you, and whether Aamir chooses to be a follower or become a leader.
