Midnight Meat Train
Release Date:1 August 2008
The Midnight Meat Train poster
The Midnight Meat Train is a 2008 horror film based on Clive Barker’s 1984 short story of the same name, which can be found in Volume One of Barker’s collection Books of Blood. The film follows a photographer who attempts to track down a serial killer dubbed the “Subway Butcher” and discovers more than he bargained for under the city streets.

The film was directed by Japanese director Ryuhei Kitamura and stars Bradley Cooper, Roger Bart, Vinnie Jones and Brooke Shields. The script was adapted by Jeff Buhler, the producer was Tom Rosenberg of Lakeshore Entertainment, and it will be released on July 11, 2008.

The adaptation of this script was a labor of love for long-time Barker fan Jeff Buhler, who worked closely with Barker throughout the process. Their intent was to expand the world presented in the original short story while preserving the underlying mythology and themes presented in this seminal work of horror short fiction. Both Barker and Buhler fought long and hard to retain the original title of the film, which at one point was going to be changed by Lakeshore Entertainment to the more “user-friendly” “Midnight Train.”

Producer Joe Daley, a long time friend of Buhler’s, brought the two writers together and helped develop the script, along with producers Anthony Diblasi and Jorge Saralugi, for their newly minted horror factory The Midnight Picture Company. As of this entry, The Midnight Picture Company was busy shooting The Book of Blood, the next film adaptation from the anthology of short stories that spawned Midnight Meat Train

The blockbuster global “Mummy” franchise takes a spellbinding turn as the action shifts to Asia for the next chapter in the adventure series, “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.” Brendan Fraser returns as explorer Rick O’Connell to combat the resurrected Han Emperor (Jet Li) in an epic that races from the catacombs of ancient China high into the frigid Himalayas. Tokyo Gore Police
release date : TBA 2008
Tokyo Gore Police poster

The guys over at Twitch know a heck of a lot more about crazy Asian cinema than I do — so when they posted a rather enthusiastic piece about an upcoming flick called Tokyo Gore Police, I was sufficiently intrigued. And then I watched the 5-minute promo clip, which is all sorts of maniacally insane. Now I officially cannot wait to throw my eyeballs at the flick, which comes from the guys who gave you Uzumaki, Meatball Machine, and many other memorably bizarre imports.

I’d be happy to embed the trailer right here, if only for simple convenience, but since the Tokyo Gore Police clip is all but awash in hardcore gore, violence and random nakedness, I’ll just point you towards Twitch for the gooey goods. (This sort of stuff is their specialty, after all.) No word on a U.S. distributor just yet (for all I know the flick’s still being finished), but I’m betting I’ll come across the Tokyo Gore Police at a genre-flavored festival some time soon. (And again, fair warning: Don’t check this clip if you have an aversion towards hilariously over-the-top gore geysers.)
